Step back in history to meet Mercy Otis Warren (1728-1814) as portrayed by JoAnn Peterson. As America’s first female playwright and first female historian, Mercy is called the “Muse of the American Revolution.” Her widely distributed pamphlet, “Observations on the New
Constitution” in which she insisted a Bill of Rights be added, earned her another title, “Conscience of the American Constitution.” Mercy was a friend to many leaders of the Revolution and favored individual freedoms over the federal government and equal opportunities for women.
