Historic Fort Steuben
Located along the Ohio River, Historic Fort Steuben is a fully reconstructed 1786 military outpost built to protect the surveyors mapping the Northwest Territory. Today, the downtown fort operates as a vibrant living history museum and park, celebrating the city’s frontier origins and early American heritage.
Masonic Temple
Located at 227 North 4th Street, the Steubenville Masonic Temple is a grand landmark of downtown’s architectural and fraternal history. Dedicated in 1931 after a massive celebratory parade, the building serves as the historic home for Steubenville Lodge No. 45, whose notable members included Lincoln’s Secretary of War, Edwin M. Stanton.
Courthouse Cannon
Displayed outside the Jefferson County Courthouse, Steubenville’s historic “Man of War” cannon serves as a prominent monument to the area’s military heritage. Originally a naval artillery piece, this striking civic fixture offers locals and visitors a tangible connection to the sacrifices made by the region’s soldiers.
City Building
Located at 421 Washington Street, Steubenville’s Tuskegee Airmen mural honors WWII “Red Tail” pilots and hometown heroes Jerome and John “Ellis” Edwards. Originally painted by Claude “Rusty” Baker in 2019 and recently restored by Kyle Holbrook, this striking landmark proudly celebrates local African American military history.

Friendship Park Memorial Wall
The Memorial Wall at Friendship Park in Smithfield, Ohio, features 888 bricks honoring local veterans from the War of 1812 to the present day. Built through an eight-year community effort, the monument includes 62 tributes to service members killed or missing in action.
